Transgender and non-binary resources.

Transitioning isn't easy, but finding the necessary tools, resources, and information should not be a barrier on the road to finding happiness.

Understand that every individual has a desired level they wish to reach which may or may not require therapy, medical, and/or surgical intervention. Everyone is unique in what they wish to achieve and that does not invalidate who they are in any way.

Affirming therapy.

A good starting point for those wanting to look at transitioning. It is not required, but strongly recommended.

Having a therapist who is affirming is like having a coach cheering you on as you begin training. They can provide guidance, walk you through situations that you may encounter, and most importantly just accept you for who you are.

Many of those questioning or wanting to start transitioning begin with a therapist. You can check out our LGBTQ+ inclusive therapist list to get you started.

Hormone replacement therapy.

Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT, is a powerful tool in the arsenal of medical providers to help provide secondary sex characteristics to those looking to transition. Whether one is looking to become more masculine, or feminine, there are therapy options for both that can help if you feel it is necessary for your transition.

Arkansas follows an Informed Consent Model for therapy. Meaning a letter from a therapist or a psychological evaluation is not required to begin treatment. If a provider feels therapy may be necessary before treatment, that is at their discretion.

HRT nuances.

For those born AMAB (Assigned Male at Birth), treatment usually involves an anti-androgen (lowers testosterone) and the supplementation of estrogen. Also if scalp hair growth is needed finasteride can sometimes be used. Progesterone can also be added during therapy for additional breast growth, but is typically not included until you have completed several months of HRT.

For those born AFAB (Assigned Female at Birth), treatment usually only requires the supplementation of testosterone. Testosterone has multiple dosage forms including injectable, cream, gel, and patches. The use of minoxidil solution has been used to help increase the growth of ones facial hair as well.

True self initiative.

Cost should never be a barrier for patients who feel it would be beneficial to start or continue HRT therapy.

We have partnered with our drug supplier to allow patients to receive commonly prescribed HRT medications at an affordable price.
